IMM Fundamentals

A SELF-GUIDED ONLINE RESOURCE This self-directed free resource is intended for actors in social finance and impact investing across Canada. IMM Fundamentals is intended to help Social Finance Intermediaries (SFIs) preparing for impact-focused due diligence with fund managers, including wholesalers in the Government of Canada’s Social Finance Fund (SFF). Through videos, readings, and other resources from experts on impact measurement and management, this self-directed online resource explores a range of IMM concepts and practices such as impact pathways, outcomes, investor contribution, and impact ratings, and is reflective of the Canadian context and the IMM framework of the SFF. Topics include: • Distinguishing between outcomes and impact, and the role of impact pathways • Adopting the Five Dimensions of Impact • Understanding counterfactuals; enterprise and investor contribution • Measurement at the SPO level • Impact risk, screens, and ratings • Setting and achieving impact goals This resource is self-paced, with an estimated 8-10 hours worth of independent learning. This resource also provides a foundation for a synchronous online cohort program specifically developed for SFIs who have received investment from any of the three wholesalers in the SFF, also led by Impact Frontiers in partnership with Realize Capital Partners. Titled “IMM for the Social Finance Fund,” that course covers more advanced topics and is centered around interactive, hands-on, peer-to-peer learning with active support from the Realize Capital Partners and Common Approach to Impact Measurement teams.
